    Commoners could not marry patricians.

A commoner who could not repay what he owed became a victim of debt bondage.

Commoners were expected to serve as unpaid soldiers when necessary, and even supply their own equipment.

    Explanation:

In ancient Rome, people were often divided into "Plebeians" and "Patricians." The Plebeians were the "common people" such as the farmers, laborers, soldiers, etc. The Patricians were the ruling class or the noble people and they were the ones who held most power in the nation.

The common people only had a few rights and there were many things that restricted their freedom. One of these was that, they couldn't marry the Patricians. If they could not repay what they owed, they would become a victim of debt bondage. This is according to a debt contract called "Nexom," which was a form of slavery under the early Roman Republic. During war time, the commoners would also be summoned for military service. This also means that they have to supply their own equipment. This was mandatory until Augustus became the ruler.
