As a witch, Persephone is the manifestation of the earth goddess. She spends six months in Hades and six months in Olympus with the other gods and goddesses corresponds with the life and death cycles of crops. The corn doll that represents Persephone is buried when the crops are planted signifying her abduction by Hades. She stays with Hades until the crops begin to grow, signifying the life cycle when Persephone rises to Olympus. When the crops are harvested and reaped, Persephone dies and returns to Hades, signifying the start of the death cycle.
