Descriptive languages are indirect languages that are expected to be identified from the context in which they are used while direct language while direct language is a written or spoken language that communicates meaning as clearly, concisely and candidly as possible.

The purpose of descriptive language is to make language more more colorful, polite, entertaining or intentionally difficult to understand.

It is clear that Jackson is addressing an audience of elites and of high literary ability while Rutledge is addressing an audience of average literary and literacy abilities.
