Wilder believed that the real significance of a play resided in the good use of the stage, and the way to interact and make full effort to project the story without the need for a big scenery and props; then leave the rest to the audience so they could imagine everything else. That's why it was so unusual in that time, it was a revolutionary way to perform a play.
