    Egeus was a character in "A Midsummer Night's Dream" written by William Shakespeare. Ancient Athenes was a patriarcal society that was the reason why Egeus, as Hermia's father and her creator, had the right to decide who she had to married. Including Theseus, Duke of Athens, gave him the power of deciding over Hermia.
