Read the excerpt from chapter 10 of Animal Farm. The farm possessed three horses now besides Clover. They were fine upstanding beasts, willing workers and good comrades, but very stupid. None of them proved able to learn the alphabet beyond the letter B. They accepted everything that they were told about the Rebellion and the principles of Animalism, especially from Clover, for whom they had an almost filial respect; but it was doubtful whether they understood very much of it. Which statement best explains how Orwell uses dramatic irony in this passage to reveal the theme that knowledge can be lost between generations? The reader knows that the horses were good workers with corrupt ideals. The reader knows that Clover gains respect because she could explain the rebellion and animalism. The reader knows Clover's language gives her the ability to abuse her power over the other horses. The reader understands the history of the rebellion, but the new horses do not.

The answer above is correct: he reader understands the history of the rebellion, but the new horses do not.

    Explanation:

Animal Farm is a novella by George Orwell in which he uses allegory to criticize the Russian Revolution of 1917. The animals of a farm choose to expel the human owner and take over the farm. In the beginning, their goal is to live in an equal society, where no one rules and every one works in favor of every one. Such an ideal caves in when the pigs, the most intelligent animals, realize the advantages of being in power. With time, they start to oppress the other animals and spread falsehoods to keep them ignorant to reality.

That is precisely what is being described in the excerpt we are studying here. The new horses are not told the truth. The irony is in the fact that the reader knows how bad the real situation is while the horses don't.

The reader understands the history of the rebellion, but the new horses do not.

    Explanation:

The new horses only know what they were told but not the real reason for the Rebellion and the Principles of Animalism was foreign to them, therefore they have to rely on the older generation
