What is the purpose of using subheadings as a text feature in your writing?

Subheadings allow the reader to grasp the organization fo your paper and understand what the most important supporting ideas are. Each subheading presents a certain idea that supports the main idea of the entire paper. In addition, a subheading gives a very brief explanation as to what that specific section is about.
