    Although many scholars may disagree Tolkien was considered the father of the fantasy genre.

    He was a Professor of Old English and Middle English language and literature, and Beowulf, influenced his own writings.

    Some influences:

    In The Lord of the Rings, the ideas of heroism and masculinity that the character of Beowulf has, can also be seen in Aragorn. Both Aragorn and Beowulf have "questionable" family lines. Both of them became kings only for the good of the people
