The story's plot revolves around a period in the life of the narrator which is no more; the reason being that not only has the narrator finally changed and become an adult but that his friend has passed away. Therefore; this means that the period has become forever fixed in the narrator's mind as an unchangeable memory of a person who was very dear to him and of a period that he cherishes. The static characters represent the indelibility of such memory.
