    Answer: When the teacher tells the student to use critical thinking skills, they may be telling her pupils to individually analyze the situation and form answers based on their complete and intellectual analyzation of the problem.

    To add another example, if you were to solve a difficult word problem, and you asked the teacher for support, they may tell you to use your critical thinking skills before they actually assist you. What they may mean by this is that you would need to analyze the word problem further, break into bits and then solve.
