All of us, our family and the Chinese guests, stopped

eating to watch the activities of the Gleasons. I wanted to

message: the Gleasons were not used to Chinese ways,

and they were just coping the best they could. For some

The part of the plot that is revealed in this excerpt is:

    C) a resolution in which the Lins have become the hosts.

    Explanation:

In the short story "The All-American Slurp", by Lensey Namioka, the Lins are a Chinese family who came to live in the United States. They are struggling not only with making ends meet, but also with the American culture, customs, and language. The conflicts in the story all revolve around the narrator, a girl from the Lin family, feeling self-conscious and embarrassed by her family's inability to fit in and behave like Americans do. For instance, they embarrass themselves at the Gleason's house, where their eating etiquette is considered rude. However, a resolution to those conflicts comes when the tables are turned and the Gleasons are the guests at the Lins'. It is now their turn to struggle with the food and etiquette at the table. That is when the narrator realizes she is not inferior, and that differences are not necessarily a bad thing. Different cultures have distinct habits, beliefs and behaviors that are considered appropriate, and that should be respected and understood.
