In "To Kill A Mockingbird" by Harper Lee, the character of Tom Robinson was accused of raping a white 19 year old girl, Mayella Ewell, the daughter of Bob Ewell. Tom was a black man, who was a good employee according to his boss Mr. Link Deas. So, when he heard the outrageous accusations of his employee by the reprobate Bob Ewell and his daughter, he felt compelled to speak out against the false accusations. Moreover the harsh interrogating of Tom made Mr. Deas feels it is necessary to interfere in the court session. Mr. Deas wasn't under oath, which made Judge Taylor enraged, ordering for him to be thrown out of the courtroom.
