    Due to the long feud they both had and so with their respective families, Ulrich wanted to be friends with Georg because he was in control of the forest.

    Explanation:

    Georg Znaeym was an opponent or rival of Ulrich von Gradwitz he wanted the have control of the forest.

    Ulrich wanted to be close friend with georg because, he is the owner of the forest so that he seemed more understandable and he has nothing to lose of being friend with Georg.

    Ulrich von Gradwitz and Georg Znaeym are seen antagonist and protagonist in the story.
