In Doris lessing's through the tunnel, there's is a hint of segregation, political issues and racism in her writing.

This comes from his childhood episode where he mentions dark boys who came from some other place and how they were physically strong and didn't need extra protection like when lessing went swimming he used googles.

These things suggests his way of showing inequality and segregation.

The storyteller utilizes some metaphorical words to make the story increasingly sensible and progressively reasonable.
