Select the correct text in the passage.

Which two words in this poem symbolize youth?

Wild Asters

by Sara Teasdale

In the spring, I asked the daisies

If his words were true,

And the clever, clear-eyed daisies

Always knew

Now the fields are brown and barren

Bitter autumn blows,

And of all the stupid asters

Not one knows

Everyone seems to know who the daisies are (wise confident youth with their lives ahead of them - - at least until summer's end). No one I read made any comment about the brown and barren fields (likely old age) leading to asters who are sluggish but still alive while other life forms are gone (death is approaching). The asters cannot answer a question like that.

So the two words you want are spring and daisies. They know. They are wise, and they speak with all the confidence of youth.
