Poetry can take two forms. One is poetry that follows a particular structure and meter. The other type is free verse, where the author can express his ideas any way he wants.

The reason why some authors prefer strict forms is because these forms contribute to the aesthetics of the text. Strict forms provide rhythm and regularity.
