    Explanation:

    Distance = speed x time

    With this formula we will obtain the other formulas to solve the problem

    In this case the variable that changes is the speed, the distance remains constant and is the incoginite, but FIRST, we must known the time he has been traveling.

    then for the first case

    Distance = 60mph x time

    and for the second case

    Distance = 50mph x (time + 40mintues)

    40 minutes = 0,67 hours

    matching the two equations

    Distance = Distance

    60mph x time = 50mph x (time + 0,67hours)

    60mphTime = 50mphTIme + 33,5mph

    10mphTime = 33,5mph

    Time = 33,5mph / 10mph

    Time = 3,35 hours

    In the first equation

    DIstance = 60mph x 3,35 hours

    Distance = 201 miles

    in equation 2

    Distance = 50mph x (3,35 hours + 0,67hours)

    Distance = 201miles
