What's a complex sentence

A complex sentence is a sentence that combines one independent clause with at least one dependent clause.

Example:

Although Denise had some doubts, she found the courses very useful

First part of the sentence cannot stand alone so it is dependent.

Second part is independent because it is a complete sentence by itself.
