Which passage shows that Prince Harweda has developed empathy?

He went toward the cage, and as he came near, the bird gave a sad little chirp.

He threw himself down upon the floor and wished that he were dead, too.

The next day he was so hungry that he began to eat one of the old withered apples, and as he bit it he thought of the bird, his fellow prisoner.

He kicked it and beat upon it, but he only bruised his fists and hurt his toes. He grew quite angry now.
