Brazilian regulation of genetically modified organisms is organized by law 11.105 of 2005 it regulates principles regarding preservation of the environment and brazilian's genetic patrimony. It created CTNBio that is a national commision that is responsible for all the regulation of the biotechnology sector. Any genetically modified product has to go into a process of 5 stages before it can be sold.

In the United States the regulation of the GM crops is divided with three regulatory agencies: EPA - Environmental Projection Agency, FDA - Food and Drug Administration and US Department of Agriculture. Each agency has its competences.

Brazilian regulation has more concerns about labeling and letting people know which product that contains or is produced from GMOs. Also, the law prohibits the release and disposal of GMOs into the environment by one to four years in prison. This makes the Brazilian law safer and more adequate to protect the public.
