The ideal marriage as per great Fathers of the Church have proclaimed the importance of the virginity such as the Apostle Paul. But Chaucer reasons that even if virginity is important, someone must be procreating so that virgins may be created. Of her five marriages, three have been good and two have been bad. The Wife is exactly what the medieval Church saw as a "wicked woman,".
