Their actions could be understood as compulsion of their needs. They were realistic. Yes, they are interesting and convincing.

Federigo and Mona Giovanna's actions were based on the need of the situation. It was a series of compulsive actions that they had to do take because of the demanding situations. Yes, they were realistic as they knew that their actions would result in a situation which would benefit a greater need i. e., Giovanna's son for Giovanna and Giovanna's heart for Federigo. Both Federigo and Giovanna are interesting and convincing characters. They had to face different circumstances yet they remained determined through the bad situation in their lives and still decided to be in good terms with one another.
