How did Dorothy get back to Oz from the country of the Winkies?

In the original book (1900), she clicked the heels of the silver slippers together three times, she flew over a desert to get home, and the shoes fell off over the desert ... So in the book, she was not dreaming. The tornado really did transport her to Oz.
