    In the book "Harrison Bergeron", Vonnegut imagines an American society in 2018 where all Americans are expected by government to be equal in all respects. If anyone was found to be too beautiful or intelligent they were to be handicapped by the use of masks and radios respectively.

    This system of government represents a society with a tyrannical style of leadership. Such a government would also necessitate the limitations of the rights and freedom of the citizens, since they have no say on the conditions for equality. More so, the conditions for equality are dehumanizing.
