The correct option is A) He was young and so not fettered.

"The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano" was first published in 1789 and it narrates in first person the life of Equiano. He describes his life in slavery, his journeys and his freedom. In different chapters, he describes his role in the ship and how he was treated as equal and he was never fettered.

In this case, options B, C and D are not correct as Equiano did not attempt to jump from the ship neither was he unconcious during the trip. He mentioned during his story that he had a job in the ship which he enjoyed and then finally he could buy his freedom.
