    The idea of the Red Cross was born in 1859, when a young Swiss man, Henry Dunant, came onto the scene of a bloody war between the armies of imperial Austria and the Franco-Sardinian alliance in Solferino, Italy ... Its symbol was a red cross on a white background: the Swiss flag's opposite.
