In what way is the setting characteristic of gothic fiction?

    They are usually set in victorian era town with a gothic twist on them, i. e dark dingy alleys, low light sources like gaslamps and candles, and it usually gives off a creepy vibe, as the rest of gothic cultures in literature is known for.
