Citing textual evidence means looking around in the text to find out what a certain word or phrase could mean.
Explanation:
For example, if there was the sentence "I saw the majority of the people have fun at the park" and you needed to find out what "majority" meant, then you would look at the other words in the sentence. Like fun, and park, majority would mean most. "I saw most of the people have fun at the park."

As readers, writers and thinkers, it is natural for students to develop ideas, ask questions, and make claims regarding what they are reading.
Citing textual evidence requires students to look back into the text for evidence to support an idea, answer a question or make a claim.
