How did the crowd react to the lynching?

    Okay so in this poem, they hang and burn a man. The people find that they can't face the lifeless body, but that doesn't necessarily mean that they thought it was wrong to kill him. They aren't angry or scared, the ending even says the children "danced round the dreadful thing in fiendish glee." So this could show they were even happy he was killed.
