Gogol and Maxine will start to like each other but their relationship will not last.

    Explanation:

Jhumpa Lahiri wrote this exceptional story about a man named Gogol who is embarrassed of his roots and thinks low of himself. This is one of the main reasons why Maxine and Gogol do not last together.

After the death of Gogol's father, he feels as if Maxine is not a part of his family. He hides his Indian or Bengali culture from her and pushes her away. Maxine gets heartbroken seeing his behavior.
