Edgar Allan Poe's main purpose in writing Annabel Lee was to entertain.

    Explanation:

Edgar Allan Poe deals a familiar theme in the poem as he had done a countless time in his other poems which was one of death of a beautiful young woman whom the narrator knows and laments.

Here too is the story of the narrator and his unbridled love of Annabelle Lee which is laden with cliches on love and despair.

This was a part of the largely sentimentalist form of poetry and novel that was popular in the time of Poe's writing.
