What is lost and/or gained by presenting it in this genre instead of as a prose because of the following: the reader is given a new perspective of her kidnapping and the effect it has on her and others in her life. The poem allows the reader to experience the emotions the character is experiencing, versus the myth tells the story far more objectively.

While both the story and poem "Persephone" by Walter Wykes tell the story of Persephone's experience, the poem conveys a more detailed experience of her being kidnapped. The poem has a more emotional approach, while the myth is more objective in telling the story. The reader gains more sense of the effect the abduction had on Persephone.
