N at least 100 words, provide a summary of this excerpt. Based on this passage, how does Thoreau feel about the people who serve the state?

Most men serve the government with their bodies. They are the army, the militia, jailers, etc. They work as they were machines. The have different kinds of positions and they are there to follow orders without thinking. They are only pieces of timber, earth and stones. Wooden men might be made that will do the same thing and they are valued as they were dogs or horses. Others serve the state with their heads. They are mostly politicians, legislators, ministers, office - holders and lawyers. These people are commonly seen as good citizens, but they rarely make any ethical difference. They could serve the devil, without any intention.
