    Minor characters such as Salerio and Salenio are designed to reflect Venetian society at large as Shakespeare want to show the reader that Shylock's cruelty as well as Antonio's friendship is famous all over Venice which he shows in different scenes.

    They both are friends of Antonio and Bassanio. both salerio and solanio go to Belmont to tell Bassanio that Antonio is in debt and Shylock is going to take 1 pound of Antonio's flesh.
