    In the excerpt the author says, "If many children don't meet strict asylum criteria but face significant dangers if they return, the United States should consider allowing them to stay." The author wants the Cambodian and Haitian children to remain in safety even if they don't meet strict asylum criteria. The author doesn't necessarily want all of the children to stay in the United States, but he does want them to remain in a safe country. The author is not trying to get feelings of sympathy. This excerpt is also not suspenseful. There are no details and the Cambodian and Haitian children.
