Walt Withman's poetry is, in general terms, quite optimistic, a pure reflection of the American spirit of the XIX century. In this poem in particular, Withman speaks of all the different trades and professions that make the American society, they all sing their own songs, which make together the Great American Song, since they're singing, the mood is joyous, the author expresses optimism, joy and respect towards the young men.
