Walking home from the park where she had been playing softball, Carla was surprised at how quickly the clouds arrived. She could see trees ahead of her had begun to sway violently, and then the wind hit her full in the face. There was an eerie light everywhere. Out of the clouds, a bolt of lightening flashed, followed in only a second or two by a loud clap of thunder. Why did I stay for that second game? Carla thought. If I hadn't, I'd be home by now. Which of these events is most likely to happen next?

    C. A heavy rainstorm.

    The text shows indication of a storm arriving. "Clouds arrived" are an indicator that clouds quickly appeared. "Lightning flashed" tells us these are storm clouds. It makes sense that next it would start raining, making the next event a heavy rainstorm.
