Characters monologue for a play!

Because I'm writing the play for theatre

The only thing I don't understand is if you

create it off of a scene of the play

OR

Do you make a monologue for a character with a random story that relates to the play

    Answer: I took theatre for 3 years. When creating a monologue for a play try and make a backstory to it and use things from past scenes or future scenes. As long as it relates to the play your good! Try not to overthink it.
