American writers of subsequent literary periods often choose to break from traditions and seek more freedom in their artistic expression probably because of the intention to present a unique yet relevant art that depicts the culture and tradition of the country. However, there are instances that artists need to break rules and even cultures in order to successfully deliver the message of their arts. Since art, is one way of expressing suppressed emotions and even beliefs, during the American times most artists used their arts to express the condition of the people in the society.
