    He was a patriot because he did what he believed was best for Rome since he believed that Caesar would through tyranny bring Rome down. A counterclaim can be that he was a betrayer because Caesar was his close friend. Another can be that he is a betrayer because he worked with people who did not do it for the well being of Rome, but rather for their own good, so they technically committed treason in order to gain personal wealth and power.
