    Sometimes, words are adopted into another language because that other language still doesn't have a word of its own to denote something they can just borrow from another language. For example, the word dentist has been taken from French, but originally it is from Latin, where the word dens means tooth.

    Sometimes, countries that are relatively near each other adopt some of its words. So, for example, English adopted the word garage from French.

    Another word that English has borrowed that still retains its original spelling can be Renaissance.
