What can the reader analyze in a magical realist story in order to discover its theme?

If you look at the authors opinions and really look close at the other characters you could find the theme, another way would be look at what is going on in the story, what is the problem? how was the problem solved? use questions like the ones above and put all your information together and you could find the theme.
