When Gandhi was born in India in 1869, the country was under British rule. As a young man, he sailed to England to finish his schooling. In London, he trained to become a lawyer. On his return to India, he struggled to establish his legal career. Since he was meeting with little success in India, he decided to make the long trip to South Africa, where many Indians lived and worked. Which explains why Gandhi moved to South Africa?
