OK, so the first thing you would want to do is figure out the basic definition of direct characterization. SO, direct characterization is most commonly known as setting the personality or overall character for a story by using adjectives and descriptive phrases. So, a good way to do this could be an event that the character goes through, such as a personal crisis, a battle, or a social event.
