How does word choice affect the tone in this section of the poem

When an author transcribes a text she selects the words that she trusts will best take the meaning and tone that she is trying to show in the text. From time to time the author openly states the message of the text by using denotative word. Other times the author uses figurative language and connotative word meanings which recommend an original communication to the reader.
