    He did nothing. Jim is highly superstitious and believes in most of them (ex. Jim once thought Huck to be a ghost). Jim is a freed slave who was mistaken for a runaway slave, and when a mob caught him and abused him, he gave no resistance and did not challenge the mob nor curse at Tom and Huck. Jim was freed when Aunt Polly hears of Jim nursing Tom during their misadventures. Jim was given 40 dollars by Tom for any troubles and Jim believes that his hairy chest granted him fortune.
