    I think the answer is the first and the last one.

    A specific even temper had come to him; it was not the first occasion when he had been in a tight place. Quite possibly his cries could be heard by somebody on board the yacht, however that shot was thin and developed slimmer as the yacht dashed on. He wrestled himself out of his garments and yelled with all his energy. The lights of the yacht ended up noticeably swoon and steadily vanishing fireflies; then they were rubbed out altogether by the night.
