All the Greek heroes, whether they be gods or kings or mortals, have had a flaw in their characters. And they often resulted in deadly retribution by Nemesis. Narcissus was consumed by self-love. Hercules had no control over his anger. Similarly Odysseus had the flaw in character of being a gloater. He felt he was safe on the boat and could gloat at the cyclops from a safe distance. This and such acts of folly have been described as "hubris" which means an excess of pride" which is what was the character flaw in Odysseus.
