Is the passage of dialogue written correctly or incorrectly?

"Why is the dog barking?" Jenna asked impatiently.

"She might smell a stranger approaching," Grandpa answered.

The answer to the question about dialogue presented above would be the passage of dialogue is written incorrectly. It would have been correct, but the part where Grandpa's dialogues ended with a 'comma' made it incorrect. It would be better if it was replaced with a period.
