The solid, bullish wagon was moving forward with such dignity of motion that a glance from the covered back seemed simply to prove that lands he'd called home for so long were crawling to the east. Vast flats of green grass, dull-hued spaces of mesquite and cactus, little groups of frame houses, woods of light and tender trees-all were shrinking slowly into the horizon, slipping away as into a precipice.
